 WOODSTOCK HIGH SCHOOL, circa. 1908
SAAA has acquired the Old Woodstock School located at 304 W. Court Street, 3 blocks from historic downtown Woodstock,Va.SAAA has established an agreement with Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors to renovate the School and maintain it's beautiful early 1900's architecture.
Built in 1908 at $14,000, the schoolhouse is 60 by 68 feet which sits on 2.053 acres, two stories and basement, constructed of brick. When constructed, the school utilized modern methods of light, ventiliation, and sanitation and the entire structure was heated with steam. On the first floor, there were four large classrooms and on the second floor were four classrooms, an office and a library.

Remnants of the school's past - chalkboards, steam radiators, hardwood floors, wood trim, brickwork, fire escapes - will all be retained and used as touchstones to the buildings history. SAAA is working closely with its architect, historian and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to ensure that all aspects of the projects scope of work transform the schoolhouse into the community treasure it once was. Once complete, the school will be utilized as the SAAA's Main Office, a respite site for seniors with memory impairment and other community services. The SAAA will be repairing the original walls, floors, celings, and woodwork for the new lay out and design. The school has the original ventilation system of metal ductwork and comes with a non-operational boiler. New air and heating systems will be installed for more efficient use also, appropriate lighting/electrical and communicational lines will be installed.
